Snip

The Snip Mine is located in northwestern BC in the Tahltan Traditional Territory; access is via air only; approximately 100 km northwest from Stewart BC, or 160 km SW of Tahltan community of Iskut.

The closed Snip Mine operated from 1991 to 1999 and was fully reclaimed in 1999. The mine is now in Active Closure with activities including ongoing monitoring. Primary intent of the site closure and reclamation program was to rehabilitate the surface area disturbed by mining-related activities to an end land use similar to what existed prior to mine construction, namely productive forest and wildlife habitat. Routine monitoring activities include water quality and quantity sampling as well as soil sampling for hydrocarbon contaminated soils.
